Captain’s Log – Week 13 – Mission Report

21st June 2020 By Rhiannon Leave a Comment

This week has featured a rollercoaster or two.

Tilly had no sooner been offered a place back at school than the building was flooded and the damage is so bad they’ve had to close until “industrial” works can be carried out.  The weird thing is that until the opportunity presented itself, I had no thoughts of sending her back.  Once it was there though, with proper child free time to work in as a tangible possibility, I was so excited!  So was she.  But then, well, matters entirely beyond our control intervened.

The whole thing definitely affected my ability to concentrate, as we waited to hear whether the school would re-open this coming week or not.  Our Peru projected also suffered, although I am probably kidding myself if I thought we’d get a lot more done than the drawings of animals you might find in Peru!

She has drawn a llama, otter, Andean hillstar, macaw, vizchaca (a bit like a real life Pikachoo), and spectacled bear in the form of Paddington.

We never got to the cake, because we never got to Machu Picchu … who knows if we’ll try again this week?

We did manage to find another of the huge dandelion clocks – however hard she tried, she couldn’t get the seeds to fly though!

The solitary white foxglove has sprouted a few friends, but they remain the only ones on the entire route.

Hopefully Tilly’s nasturtiums will flower soon – the leaves are certainly big enough!

After 13 weeks, and the brief prospect of not having to do it anymore, we both seem to have lost our ability to pretend to enjoy this version of home school.  I’m hoping the weather will cheer up soon so that we can at least get back out into the garden and do painting and go on some more interesting walks…

Hey ho, onwards and upwards!  How has your week been? Xx
